Websites and tools for small businesses · UK

I’m a software engineer. I build websites and the tools behind them for small businesses, from booking and payments to automating the jobs you do by hand.

Most recently I built a new site for Beauty Barn, a beauty academy in Kent. Students find a course and pay online in a couple of minutes, and the owners run bookings and the whole site from an admin I built just for them. It’s made their day-to-day much simpler, they now rank among the top academies in Kent on Google, and they’re taking more bookings because of it.

I do brand work too. For Marlo, a content tool, I created everything from scratch: the name, logo, website and promo video.

Every site I look after reports to bertha, an error tracker and uptime monitor I built, so I usually hear about a problem before anyone has to tell me.

Work

Searching the site for “lash”: matching courses with photos, prices and the word highlighted
A course page: the fee, the deposit to pay today and a button to book
The owner’s admin: a booking opened to show the student’s contact details and notes, the payment with a link to it in Stripe, the emails sent, and a follow-up note

Beauty Barn Training Academy

Course pages with the fee and deposit up front, search, online booking, and an admin the owner runs themselves.

“Students can book and pay their deposit online now, and I get an email for every booking. I change my prices myself, and for anything else I just message Harry.”

Marlo’s home page: a cinnamon bun lifted from a pink box behind the Marlo wordmark
A brand kit for a bakery, with its mark, wordmark, colours and type
“First impressions start with a scroll”, over a wall of food photos cut into blobs
The pricing section: a membership card on a lime background

Marlo

A content tool, branded end to end: the name, logo, site and promo video.

bertha’s overview: events, new issues, regressions and uptime for the week, and what needs attention
A stack trace with the exact line that broke highlighted
An open uptime incident, with the errors that started alongside it
Events either side of a deploy, up 154% since it went out

bertha

Error tracking and uptime checks for the sites I look after. If a booking page breaks or a site goes down, it tells me straight away.

Working together

I take on a few clients at a time, so you get my full attention. We start with a chat about your business and what would make life easier. Then I design it, build it, put it live and look after it. Most sites cost £500 to £1,500 to build, then £40 a month for hosting and small changes, so send them whenever. Bigger things, like a new booking system, I’ll quote for.

You deal with me throughout, by email or on the phone. I’m in the UK and work with businesses all over it.

Contact

The easiest way to reach me is hello@barden.dev. Tell me a bit about your business and what you’re after. No need to have it all figured out, that’s my job. I usually reply the same day.
